The providers at Harter Physical Therapy in Goddard, Kansas welcome you! Specializing in physical therapy, we offer personalized care with optimum patient outcomes. Unlike any other physical therapy practice you’ve been to, our physical therapists are board-certified orthopedic specialists, giving us the expertise to correctly diagnose and treat all orthopedic conditions to the highest standards.

Dr. Amanda Harter, PT, DPT, OCS, CMPT

Dr. Amanda Harter

Dr. Amanda Harter is one of the regions only Certified Manual Physical Therapists (CMPT) and Board Certified Orthopedic Specialists (OCS). She grew up in Goddard, Kansas, and graduated from the University of Kansas with two degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Health, Sport, and Exercise Science and a Bachelor of General Studies in Psychology with an emphasis in personality, abnormality and health. At KU, Amanda was awarded the Josie Stapleton Honor Award which is given to one outstanding senior majoring in physical education based on citizenship, high academic achievement, and participation in extra-class activities. Amanda obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the Kansas University Medical Center Physical Therapy Program. In physical therapy school Amanda received the Student Research Award for her research study titled, The Effects of Collaborative Case Based Learning on DPT and PTA students’ perceptions of the PTA’s role.

Amanda was initially attracted to manual physical therapy after a clinical residency with one of the regions highest trained Manual Therapists at KU Sports Medicine and Performance Center. She saw first hand that intensive manual therapy training and certification led to an expertise that directly improved patient care. She also completed her STAR certification, a comprehensive cancer rehabilitation program aimed to create a multidisciplinary approach to assist oncology patients throughout their treatment and recovery. Amanda worked with many specialties including orthopedics, chronic pain, geriatrics, sports rehabilitation and conditioning, amputee rehabilitation, neurologic physical therapy and cancer rehabilitation. Amanda is passionate about genuinely getting to know her patients, their journey, and how their pain or dysfunction is specifically effecting their lives. She strives to utilize these interactions to provide individualized care to achieve her patient’s goals.

As co-owner of Harter Physical Therapy, it is Amanda’s goal to create a physical therapy clinic that utilizes advanced physical therapy techniques combined with current evidence based research with the sole purpose to help patients return to doing what they love while improving their overall quality of life.

Outside of the clinic, you might find Amanda covered in flour as she enjoys baking as a hobby. She loves to spend time outdoors, hiking, and is replenished by the beauty in nature. On a Saturday morning, she might be sitting on her deck with Gabe, drinking a cup of coffee, while reading a baking/cooking magazine, or a new book.

Dr. Gabe Harter, PT, DPT, OCS, CMPT

Dr. Gabe Harter

Dr. Gabe Harter is one of the regions only Certified Manual Physical Therapists (CMPT) and Board Certified Orthopedic Specialists (OCS). He was born and raised in rural Hiawatha, Kansas, and being from a small town has grown to appreciate the tight knit community a small town offers.

He was a scholarship basketball player for Bethany College and was a member of the Bethany College Honor's Program. Gabe graduated from college in three years with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with Honors. He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the Kansas University Medical Center Physical Therapy Program. In physical therapy school Gabe was awarded the Joan Mills Clinical Excellence Award for his superior performance during clinical internships.

Gabe is a published author for the research study titled, Aerobic Exercise in Subacute Stroke Improves Cardiovascular Health and Physical Performance. This research study was published in the Journal of Neurologic Physical Therapy (JNPT) and would later receive the Golden Synapse Award for best JNPT article of 2012.

Gabe has worked in a variety of physical therapy settings, and has experience with many specialties in physical therapy including orthopedics, neurologic physical therapy, chronic pain, geriatrics, and sports rehabilitation and conditioning. Gabe utilizes his multi-setting and specialty based experience to provide excellent care for his patients.

Gabe wanted to create a physical therapy clinic that combined his love for providing compassionate patient-centered care with his experience and enthusiasm for cutting edge research. Thus, Gabe and his wife Amanda created Harter Physical Therapy where their goal is to provide patients excellent quality care to help people achieve their goals while improving their well-being.

Outside of the clinic, Gabe is an explorer at heart. He enjoys exploring locally roasted coffee, listening to classical music, going on date nights with Amanda to locally owned restaurants, reading book recommendations, hiking, and supporting local sport teams.

Dr. Jana Weber, PT, DPT, OCS, CMPT

Dr. Jana Weber

Dr. Jana Weber grew up in Garden Plain, KS. She attended Fort Hays State University where she graduated with a bachelors degree in Health and Human Performance.

While at Fort Hays, she was an active member in Student Government Association and was a nominee for the Torch Award, which is a faculty nominated award that recognizes an outstanding graduating senior with leadership, high personal standards, and scholarship qualifications.

Following her time at Fort Hays, Jana briefly worked as an Exercise Specialist in Cardiac Rehab at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. She then obtained her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

While attending KUMC, she assisted with research evaluating the effects of diabetes on patient’s cognition and safety. During physical therapy school, she was very interested in all fields of physical therapy from inpatient rehab to wound care. During her long term rotation at a private practice in Kansas City, MO, she discovered a passion for outpatient physical therapy.

Following graduation, she began a career at a private clinic in Overland Park, KS where she spent 3 years studying and applying motor control and specific muscle activation and training.

In spring of 2014, Jana’s husband, Eddie, was offered a job in the Wichita area and they were excited for the opportunity to return “home” with their daughter, Hazel. Since then they have welcomed a second daughter - Nora - into family.

Jana completed training and extensive testing to become a Board Certified OrthopedicSpecialist (OCS) in 2016, and since then is working toward completing her Manual Physical Therapy Certification. Jana joined Harter Physical Therapy because of the clinic environment which puts patients before all else, and it was an opportunity for her to provide the care that she believes patients deserve and need to achieve their goals. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and has a passion for helping improve the quality of life of patients with chronic pain.

Debra Funke, Office Manager

Debra Funke

Debra Funke is the Office Manager at Harter Physical Therapy. She was born and raised in Goddard and has developed a love for the wonderful community she’s from. Debra attended Wichita State University where she graduated with bachelor’s degrees in Exercise Science and in Psychology.

Debra came to Harter Physical Therapy with more than six years of experience in physical therapy clinics as a physical therapy technician and receptionist. She was excited to come back to Goddard to work with the talented therapists at Harter Physical Therapy and to serve her hometown community.

Debra is the epitome of being involved in and supporting her community. She is the head coach of the Goddard High School Color Guard, is involved in the Goddard Lion’s Club and is a member of the Young Professionals of Goddard organization.

Debra is the life and soul of Harter Physical Therapy. She emits a contagious love to help others and is always willing to put forth the time, effort and energy to provide top quality care for all of the patients at Harter Physical Therapy.
